Broward Lotus Sangha

Centre description
The Broward Lotus Sangha (BLS) is a Community of Mindful Living in the tradition of Zen Master Thich Nhất Hạnh, who was nominated by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. for the Nobel Peace Price back in the 60s when they were working together to end the war in Vietnam and promote peace on Earth. A “Sangha” is a community of practitioners that gets together to meditate, practice mindfulness, support its members’ spiritual practice, and socialize with a focus. Throughout our practice, we emphasize the cultivation of Smirti (Mindfulness), Samadhi (Concentration), and Prajna (Insight).

We meet on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month from 6:30 to 8:30 PM. The door opens around 6:00 PM to set up and practitioners should be arriving by 6:15 PM so they can find a comfortable place to sit and become acquainted with the Sangha. If you are new to meditation, please arrive at 6 p.m. for an introductory meditation class. Please be punctual. We begin our 30 minute sitting meditation promptly at 6:30 pm. If you arrive after that, please come in quietly. (We will be talking again by about 7:00). Our meeting will run till about 8:30 P.M.

After 8:30 P.M. you are invited to stay for the tea & treats portion of our gathering. To be kind to the Earth Mother, please bring your own non-disposable teacup, as well as any healthy teas, vegetarian finger foods or snacks that you may wish to share with the Sangha.
Dharmic activities
We gather as a Sangha to offer an opportunity to those that wish to deepen their Buddhist and Spiritual practice. Our services include Retreats, Days of Mindfulness, Meditation, Dharma teachings, Dharma discussions and Dharma sharings. We also like to offer an opportunity to commune with nature with our hikes, bike rides, picnics, and field trips.

We hope to see you at some of our events :)
Community service
We sponsor Sister Chan Khong's and Zen Master Thich Nhất Hạnh's "Love and Understanding Program", providing education, meals, clean water, and other services for underserved pre-schoolers in rural Vietnam.

We support the "Prison Dharma Project" and provide subscriptions of Zen Master Thich Nhất Hạnh's "Mindfulness Bell" to incarcerated individuals across the United States of America.

We volunteer localy with the Broward Native Plant Society to offset our carbon footprint and provide greener native landscaping to members and other non-profit organizations such as "Cinema Paradiso".
